A new version of our “Ashi no Nemaki” has been created using only organic cotton.

It began with an email from a customer living on Amami Oshima. In a warm and humid climate, wool can sometimes feel too warm, and she asked if we could make a version in cotton instead.

Made with 100% organic cotton yarn, this version has a lighter, drier feel. Unlike the soft, fluffy warmth of our regular wool “Ashi no Nemaki,” it is especially comfortable for warmer climates and seasons, as well as for those who prefer not to wear wool.

Some people may wonder whether wearing socks to bed could interfere with the natural release of heat from the feet. “Ashi no Nemaki” was not created to keep your feet heavily insulated throughout the night, but rather to gently wrap cold feet before sleep. To make them feel as unobtrusive as possible, and to allow them to come off naturally once your feet warm up and begin to feel hot during the night, they are knitted to the largest dimensions possible within the production process.

As the Organic Cotton version uses the same material on both sides, it can be worn reversibly to suit your preference and how you use it. Wearing the pile side inside helps the socks stay more closely around the feet, while wearing the pile side outside allows them to come off more naturally during sleep.

Rather than simply keeping your feet warm, we wanted to create something that feels comfortable according to the climate and how your feet feel at the time. This is another version of “Ashi no Nemaki,” made with organic cotton.
