About
About Glück und Gute
‘Glück’ is German for happiness.
‘Gute’ means good quality.
We wanted to create things that allow people to feel both of these qualities when they hold them in their hands or wear them. That is where our brand began.
In today's busy world, many of us live with heat gathered in the head while the feet remain cold. Without noticing this imbalance, we may reach for cold drinks and foods, further disturbing the body's natural circulation.
At Glück und Gute, we create legwear based on the traditional Japanese wisdom of "Cool Head, Warm Feet." With the regulating qualities of natural materials and the craftsmanship of Japanese makers, we continue to create products that support comfort and balance from the feet up.
When the feet feel comfortable, the body settles.
When the body settles, the mind settles.
And when the mind changes, our actions and the way we see daily life begin to change as well.
Our ideal is not to be chosen simply because our products are "good for the body," but because they feel truly comfortable against the skin.
It is like the quiet happiness we feel when tasting something delicious.
We hope to be a presence that gently supports your everyday life, one step at a time.
History so far
Our Story
More than ten years ago, I was living in Nara with my daughter, who had just turned two.
From a very young age, she often struggled with eczema, hives, rhinitis, skin irritation, and other unstable health conditions. We spent many days going back and forth to clinics, almost every week.
Medication could ease the symptoms, but I never felt that her overall condition was truly becoming stable.
Through that repeated experience, I began to feel uneasy about relying only on medication, and decided to look more closely at the foundation of our daily life.
I began to reduce additives, changed white rice to brown rice, and gradually brought into our life things that supported the body’s natural strength.
Around that time, I encountered the ideas of “Cool Head, Warm Feet” and hie-tori, a Japanese practice of warming the body from the feet.
Natural food and natural materials—
In that moment, the two became connected as one clear line within me.
At the time, I never imagined that making socks would become my life’s work.
And yet, through a series of encounters and timing, Glück und Gute was born, almost as if guided into being.
“When things move forward naturally, as if guided by those around you, that may be the path you are meant to take.”
I felt this deeply again when I moved to Yamanashi.
While holding firmly to my own will, I also want to trust the power of being guided, and continue walking forward, one step at a time.
For the Future
Rather than simply increasing the number of items we make, we want to continue revisiting our existing staples—improving their comfort and ease of use, little by little.
And now, our attention has turned to the stretch yarns hidden inside our socks.
We want to bring even the unseen parts as close to natural materials as possible.
Turning the impossible into possible, one step at a time—
with that hope, we continue to consult with technicians and manufacturers, rethinking the materials that touch the skin and the role of stretch yarns in our socks.
Not only the parts you can see,
but also the parts you cannot.
We will continue to carefully create and deliver products that allow feet to feel truly at ease.
